A distance of about 40 kilometres separates Fuerteventura airport in the Canary Islands from the dreamy beaches of Corralejo –a true surf paradise in Spain– as well as from its adjacent white sand dunes, declared a biosphere reserve by the UNESCO.
Upon your arrival in the island, it will be rather simple to transfer from Fuerteventura airport to your hotel in Corralejo, no matter if you choose to use public transport or if you prefer the car rental option. A car drive ot the Dunes and the Natural Park should take you no longer than 35 minutes; however, if you decide to use other ground transportation allow for some extra time as the public bus lines, for instance, require one transfer and make stops to pick up other passengers along the way.
Buses to Corralejo from Fuerteventura airport
Once you have collected your bags and find yourself in the non-restricted area, walk past “Caffé di Fiore” and pay attention to the signposting: public bus line 03 (Las Salinas-Caleta-Puerto del Rosario) stops right outside the terminal.
It is mandatory that you travel to the capital city Puerto del Rosario in Fuerteventura in order to take the 06 line to Corralejo, as there is no direct service from the airport. The first leg of the journey aboard line 03 will take approximately 15 minutes and a single ticket costs 1.45 euros. You are advised to ask the driver which direction the bus is going, as it stops there when travelling towards both Las Salinas and the capital.
Puerto del Rosario bus station is the last terminus of this route and the place where you will get on bus 06 towards Corralejo Bay. The single ticket costs 3.40 and it takes around 40 minutes to reach the final destination. The unparalleled landscape of the dunes announces the proximity of the sea, and getting off at the last stop (the quay) will allow us to enjoy lovely views of Lobos Island, a delightful meal at a fine restaurant or a nice stroll along the promenade.
Renting a car in Fuerteventura airport
If you are carrying your own surf equipment, you may prefer to hire a van or car and get around the island freely, even though you should know that Corralejo has many surf schools and places where you can rent surfboards and wetsuits, being even home to the popular Quicksilver surf camp. Provided that you choose the car rental option, there is a wide array of establishments of this kind that you can go to before leaving Fuerteventura airport, which are located opposite the aforementioned “Caffé di Fiore” café outside the arrivals lounge. Among them you will find Top Car AutoReisen, Avis, Cicar, Hertz, Payless, Europcar and Goldcar.
Have you already found your hotel in Corralejo? If you haven’t, treat yourself to a wonderful stay in the Canary Islands and make a reservation with Gran Atlantis Bahia Real for some seaside luxury.
