Fukuoka city, located in the northern shore of Kyushu island, is the capital of the Japanese prefecture of the same name as well as one of the most heavily populated areas in Japan. Travellers from all corners of the world have already fallen in love with colourful Fukuoka, and the figure of more than 2 million yearly incoming tourists (both local and foreign) proves that it is indeed worth visiting. Whatever your personal interests and preferences, there is plenty to do and see in Fukuoka all year round: museums, parks, zoos, beaches, cultural and music festivals and even a Buddhist temple. Although it is easily accessible by ferry boat or train and can be scheduled as an additional stop within your Japan tour, the city is served by Fukuoka International airport and you can also fly directly from overseas. Read our advice below to find out the best ways to travel from the airport to the city centre and book a hotel in Japan.
Travelling from Fukuoka airport in Japan
There are three options to commute from Fukuoka airport to the city: by bus, by subway and by taxi. If you choose the first one, you will need to catch either the Expressway bus or a regular line connecting the international terminal to the central Hakata station in just 30 minutes; should you prefer to save time and travel by subway, only two stops separate the airport from Fukuoka downtown, but you will need to ride the free shuttle bus from the international building to the domestic terminal for this purpose; lastly, authorised taxis outside the terminal will take you to the city in about 20 minutes, depending on the volume of traffic at the time of travelling.
