How to get to the Terracotta Army Museum in China

Will you be travelling from Xian Xianyang airport to visit the Terracotta Warriors Museum? Unless you rent a car upon landing to go straight from the airport to the Lintong district, your journey will have two distinct phases: commuting to central Xi’an first, then taking a bus towards the Terracotta Army.

First step: from Xianyang airport to Xian city centre

It takes 53 minutes to go from Xian airport to the downtown by car; this option is advisable when you hire a car to get around and you have parking spaces available near your accommodation. You are advised to leave your car at this point since commuting from the centre to the Terracotta museum using public transportation will probably be cheaper.

Airport shuttle buses from Xian airport to the city take only 1 hour and depart regularly from terminals 2 and 3.

In case you look for a faster alternative, hop on the airport’s intercity metro line connecting it to the centre, operational from 2019 onwards.

Second step: from central Xi’an to the Terracotta Army Museum in China

Provided that you have a car to get around during your stay in Xian, you may drive to the Lintong district from the centre, which will take about 40 minutes.

From Xian central railway station, take the tourist line 5 (bus 306); the journey lasts a bit more than one hour.

For a free shuttle ride straight from central Xian to the Terracotta Warriors, go to Xian North railway station instead.

Final tips for your visit to the Terracotta Army in China

The museum is open from 8:30 to 17:00 every day of the week and, for many visitors, two or three hours are enough to enjoy and take the whole tour.
